STEP 1:
The first thing a student must have in his hand is the syllabus for a subject. It is very important as you can see the most important topics of a unit will be easily visible while going through the syllabus. Anna University Affiliated Colleges will give all its student the Regulations, Curricula and Syllabi for the branch in which a student studies. It would be helpful until the student finishes his degree. If it is not available, no problem. Search on Google with subject code, for example, "CY6151 Engineering Chemistry 1 Syllabus" and you will get the syllabus for a subject.

STEP 2:
After getting the syllabus of a subject, go through it to see which units are small in size, ie., which units has very less number of topics to be covered. Select the top 4 units from least topics to most topics according to your wish. Dont ask others, choose yourself.

STEP 3:
As you have decided what units you are going to study, the next step is to get the local author books or the standard author books which you feel comfortable with. Go to your college library and take the books which covers the syllabus. Many take books which are different from the syllabus of the subject, so clearly choose the books which are meant for your syllabus.

STEP 4:
If you have sufficient time for preparation of the topics, then spend some time on reading the topics on the book. It will be helpful in exam. And dont mug up unless it is the only option for you. If you dont have time to read the topics, then proceed to step 5.

STEP 5:
This is one of the important step which every student must follow. Get the previous year question papers of the subject as per your regulation and the subject code. Try to get atleast 6 previous year question papers. Search on Google like this : "PH6151 Engineering Physics 1 Previous Year Question Papers".
1st Semester Previous Year Questions : ANNA UNIVERSITY R2013 FIRST SEMESTER PREVIOUS YEAR QUESTION PAPER COLLECTION
2nd Semester Previous Year Questions : ANNA UNIVERSITY R2013 SECOND SEMESTER PREVIOUS YEAR QUESTION PAPER COLLECTION
Dont rely much on the question banks as they are useful only for high scorers. For new regulation students like regulation 2013, there will be less previous year question papers, but get the old regulation question papers for preparation.

STEP 6:
If possible, download the latest question banks for a subject. Why it is done means, it will be helpful when preparing PART A 2 marks. so search on Google with subject code to get the PART A question banks. For example : "MA6151 Engineering Mathematics 1 PART A 2 marks with answers question bank"

STEP 7:
After having the books and old question papers for a subject, you are 30% complete in the preparation. From the old question paper, choose unit wise questions, like, if your first preparing unit is unit 3, then take 13th question in PART B section of all the previous year question paper. You will be amazed to see that more than 70%, a same question will be repeated in all the question papers. Note it down on a note as per the most repeatedly asked question to least asked question. Repeat it for other units which you wanted to cover for the semester exam.

STEP 8:
If it is a problematic paper, then you could see that a question using a particular formula is being repeated in the previous year question paper and sometimes only 3 to 4 problems with same numbers will be repeated. Note those sums also. Also note down the formula which questions based on that are repeatedly asked.

STEP 9:
Before beginning to start the preparation, note down the internal marks out of 20 for that particular subject. CLICK HERE to get to student portal. After seeing your internal marks out of 20, now CLICK HERE to know the minimum theory marks out of 100 you must obtain in the semester exam to get atleast and 'E' Grade to pass.

STEP 10:
As of now you would know the marks which you must get to secure an 'E' Grade. But fix the marks as 70 and above as you are going to prepare for 4 units of a paper.

STEP 11:
There is no substitute to hard work. So work hard and prepare the things which you have planned through the above steps. You will hardly study 4 questions for an unit if it is a theory unit and 3 problems if it is a problematic paper. After covering a unit, using the part a question bank, study the possible and repeated 2 marks questions. Part A is the very important thing to get pass. To know why, read the following steps.

STEP 12:
As you have completed the 4 units, if possible, study and prepare the 5th unit also. No one knows which unit question you prepared will come for the exam. It may or may not come. So be prepare to face all possibilities.

STEP 13:
As you get the question paper in exam hall, make sure that you are going to attend the questions which you know the most and in the same order, write answers fastly and neatly. For PART B questions, write for atleast 4 pages in the answer booklet. For theory questions, write in points and put some diagrams releated to topic. Draw a line after finishing a question. For problems, write given data and formula used, as evaluators may give 4 marks for that alone and proceed to problem and write answers inside the box.

STEP 14:
Spend atleast 20 minutes for PART A questions as the evaluator first corrects part a only. So be thorugh to attend the most part a questions. Your first impression on part a reflects on part b also. So be sure to study part a for all the units. It plays the major role in making pass for you.

STEP 15:
For all the unknown questions, write paragraph answers and relate the topic with the one you studied and draw more diagrams neatly and fill the pages and most importantly, dont scribble. If you scribble answers for unknown questions, they easily know that you dont know answers. Instead, write neatly and draw some related diagrams and flowcharts.

SUCCESS IS YOURS. ONLY 10 DAYS IS ENOUGH FOR PREPARING A PAPER TO GET PASS. ALL THE BEST !!
